Nye County Reappoints Boskovich Chair, Koenig Named Vice-Chair
At its first meeting of 2026 on Jan. 6, the Nye County Board of Commissioners selected its leadership for the year, reappointing Commissioner Ron Boskovich as chair and naming Commissioner John Koenig vice-chair. The board also confirmed leadership roles for the Board of Highway Commissioners and the County Licensing and Liquor Board, moves that shape oversight of roads, permitting and liquor licensing across the county for the next year.

The Nye County Board of Commissioners met on Jan. 6, 2026, and reestablished its leadership for the coming year. Commissioner Ron Boskovich was reappointed chair of the board, and Commissioner John Koenig was appointed vice-chair. Those appointments took effect immediately and will remain in place for one year.
At the same session the board confirmed related leadership roles for county governing bodies. Bruce Jabbour was reappointed chair of the Board of Highway Commissioners with Koenig named vice-chair. Sheriff Joe McGill was reappointed chair of the County Licensing and Liquor Board, also with Koenig serving as vice-chair. All appointments are effective immediately and expire in one year, aligning leadership cycles across multiple county bodies.
The chair and vice-chair of the county commission set meeting agendas, preside over hearings and play central roles in coordinating county operations and priorities. The Board of Highway Commissioners oversees county road maintenance, capital projects and coordination with state and federal transportation agencies; its leadership affects scheduling and prioritization of road repairs and infrastructure planning. The County Licensing and Liquor Board issues and reviews business licenses and liquor permits, and its membership has direct influence over local economic activity and public safety considerations tied to licensed establishments.
Reappointing existing leaders signals continuity in governance and offers predictability for ongoing projects and permitting processes. Residents and business owners should expect the established working relationships among commissioners, the highway board and the licensing board to guide decision-making through 2026. With Commissioner Koenig occupying vice-chair roles on three bodies, the vice-chair will have a significant recurring presence in agenda-setting and in stepping into chair duties if needed.

Leadership selections underscore the importance of routine public oversight. County commissions and boards make policy and regulatory decisions that affect road conditions, permitting timelines, business licenses and local enforcement priorities. Residents interested in road projects, permit approvals or liquor licensing decisions should monitor meeting agendas and minutes, attend hearings when possible and submit public comment to ensure their concerns are considered during the year-long leadership term.
Annual leadership appointments provide a clear window for citizens to evaluate actions and hold officials accountable. As the county begins 2026 under reaffirmed leadership, transparency in agenda-setting, timely publication of meeting materials and open public engagement will determine how those leadership choices translate into policy outcomes for Nye County communities.
