Honey Strozzi, Nye County's Purchasing and Contracts Administrator, published a formal solicitation for contractors to drill, construct and equip a second well at the Pahrump/Nye County Fairgrounds, moving a long-discussed water infrastructure project into active procurement.

The Request for Response, designated Bid No. 2026-03 and Public Works Project No. NY-2026-196, was posted to the county's bid portal on March 25. Contractor responses are scheduled to be opened April 23, 2026, at 2:00 p.m.

The scope of work covers the full cycle of well development: drilling, construction, development, testing and equipping the new well. Full technical specifications, special provisions and labor compliance documentation are available through the Nye County Document Center. Firms interested in submitting must follow the county's procurement procedures, which require sealed responses and acknowledgment of any posted addenda, along with licensing and bonding requirements outlined in the RFP packet. The Nye County Board of Commissioners serves as the contracting authority.

The second well is part of a multi-year initiative to secure a dependable water supply across the roughly 400-acre fairgrounds site, a prerequisite for field irrigation, restroom facilities and livestock areas the county has planned but been unable to build without reliable water infrastructure. A second well would also reduce the site's dependence on its existing well, which currently bears the full load of whatever limited operations the fairgrounds supports.

Earlier phases of the project drew on state and federal funding, including a Community Development Block Grant that supported design negotiations leading to this construction-ready solicitation. That groundwork now positions the county to move from planning documents to an active contractor and a construction timeline.

Contractor selection and the subsequent drilling schedule will determine how quickly the fairgrounds can advance beyond infrastructure to the sports fields and public event uses that local stakeholders have pressed county officials to deliver.
