The 23rd annual Pahrump Earth Day and Arbor Day celebration will return to Petrack Park on Saturday, April 18, giving Nye County families a free chance to talk with local conservation groups, garden experts and water agencies about desert living.

The event is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Bob Ruud Community Center at Petrack Park, with the town calendar listing it at Petrack Park - Field A, 150 N Highway 160, Pahrump, NV 89060. The Southern Nye County Conservation District will host the community gathering, which organizers say will promote conservation while honoring local environmental leader John Pawlak’s legacy.

For Pahrump homeowners, the strongest draw is the mix of hands-on learning and local problem-solving. The event listing includes the Pahrump Master Gardeners, Great Basin Water Company, Nye County Water District, Private Well Owners Association, UNR Extension Water Rock Farming and the Bureau of Land Management, along with Desert Research Institute, Great Basin College and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Those booths place practical questions about water use, landscaping, wells, wildlife and desert stewardship front and center in a town where every drop matters.

Families will also find an Earth Day art showcase, healthy smoothies, food vendors and family-friendly activities. The wide list of participating partners includes the 4-H Junior Garden Club, Pahrump Artists & Artisans, Pahrump Community Library, Pahrump Valley Garden Club, Lakeview Executive Golf Course, Valley Electric Association, Solar United Neighbors of Nevada, Ash Meadows Wildlife Refuge, Nye Communities Coalition, National Rural Water Association, Great Old Broads for the Wilderness, CLEAN Up PAHRUMP, Pahrump Valley Disposal, Joe’s Sanitation, BEC Environmental, NyeSpace and Make the Road Nevada.

The celebration comes as Petrack Park continues to serve as a regional park and gathering place in the middle of Pahrump. With conservation booths, youth activities and local agencies all in one place, the April 18 event is set to give families more than a festival afternoon. It will offer a direct look at how Earth Day and Arbor Day connect to the daily realities of water, land and home care in Nye County.
