Pahrump Fairgrounds Seeks CDBG Funding for Major Waterline Upgrade

On November 28, 2025 Nye County officials pursued Community Development Block Grant funding to pay for a utilities upgrade at the 427 acre Pahrump Fairgrounds, centered on a roughly 3,600 foot, 8 inch waterline to interconnect two existing wells. The pipeline would enable water service for multiple planned facilities, making this funding decision consequential for local recreation, events and economic development.

Nye County moved forward on November 28, 2025 with a formal push for Community Development Block Grant funding to support a utilities upgrade at the 427 acre Pahrump Fairgrounds. The centerpiece of the application is a roughly 3,600 foot, 8 inch waterline designed to interconnect two existing wells on the property. County planners say the pipeline would allow water service connections for a range of planned amenities.

Planned facilities that would rely on the new waterline include a 28,465 square foot community center with basketball, racquetball and pickleball courts, an approximately 40 acre off road vehicle park, a rodeo and agricultural event center, 12 baseball fields and eight soccer and football fields. The project summary lists trenching, pipe, appurtenances, and engineering and inspection services as part of the scope.

The application follows a process in which local submissions compete for limited CDBG allocations. Several other local CDBG submissions were withdrawn or denied during the current cycle, leaving the fairgrounds utilities upgrade as the prioritized project for Nye County. The application will now go to CDBG administrators for final award decisions, with announcements typically made in summer.

This request builds on prior CDBG investments at the fairgrounds dating back to 2018. Previous allocations have funded a drainage study, a detention basin, an environmental assessment, a water well, a wastewater system and earlier utilities funding. Those earlier projects laid groundwork for expanded infrastructure, and the proposed waterline represents a next step toward making the larger master plan viable.

For local residents the stakes are tangible. Improved water infrastructure would unlock recreational and event facilities that could expand youth sports, boost tourism related to rodeo and off road events, and create space for community programming. Reliable utility service is also a basic prerequisite for larger scale events that generate economic activity for local businesses and service providers.

Securing CDBG funds is not guaranteed, and the county will await the administrators final decision in the coming months. If awarded, the waterline would be a foundational investment in the fairgrounds vision, and a practical demonstration of how targeted infrastructure funding can translate into community amenities and economic opportunity.
