The Nye County Animal Shelter in Pahrump is waiving all adoption fees through April 30, a time-limited push meant to move fully vetted animals out of 1580 E. Siri Lane and into homes without the county’s usual upfront charge.

The shelter says every adoptable pet is spayed or neutered, vaccinated and microchipped, which means adopters are taking home animals that have already cleared the most expensive intake steps. Nye County Animal Services also says found and adoptable animals at the shelter can be located for both Pahrump, zip code 89060, and Tonopah, zip code 89049, giving the program a reach beyond the Pahrump valley alone.

Residents can view adoptable pets online through 24PetConnect by searching zip code 89060. The shelter’s posted hours have included Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with Sunday limited in some notices to reclaiming owned animals by appointment. That means the adoption window is active now, but the county is also keeping a separate lane open for people trying to recover lost pets.

The fee sponsorship fits a pattern already used at the same facility. In December 2024, the shelter joined BISSELL Pet Foundation’s Empty the Shelters Holiday Hope event and offered $20 adoption fees for dogs and cats through Dec. 17, 2024. County notices in recent months also said District 2 Commissioner John Koenig was covering adoption fees through Oct. 31 in another sponsorship campaign, showing that Nye County has leaned on temporary fee relief before to help clear shelter space.

That approach sits inside the county’s broader animal-control system. Nye County Resolution 2022-42 amended the county’s schedule of fees and penalties for animals and shelter adoptions, while Nye County Animal Services handles animal welfare, public health and safety, rabies control, quarantine, animal cruelty investigations, barking dogs and animals-at-large. For now, the immediate public benefit is straightforward: anyone who adopts before April 30 avoids the county adoption fee and takes home a pet that has already been vetted, vaccinated, sterilized and microchipped.
