Pahrump Theatre Company Runs Holiday Double Feature at Calvada Theater

Pahrump Theatre Company opened a holiday double feature at the Calvada Theater, 1266 E. Calvada Blvd. #1, on December 18 and continues performances through December 21. The program pairs a family friendly youth adaptation of a Christmas classic with an irreverent adult comedy, giving local audiences two very different theatrical experiences on the same bill.

The youth show A Tiny Christmas Carol is directed by Rhea Chavez and features 12 young actors aged eight to 15. The cast includes Landen as Scrooge, AJ as the nurse, Izzy as Tiny Tam, Carter as Cody, and ensemble members Valeriia, Mario, Gabriel, Apollo, Gabe, Neveah, and Freya. Chavez guided the cast through a condensed preparation period, meeting four days a week for two hours each night across a four week rehearsal schedule and working through the Thanksgiving break. The short rehearsal timeline contrasts with a more typical six week schedule, and organizers said the young performers adapted quickly when they stepped onto the stage.

Running at the same time is Young Grinchenstein, an adult comedy directed by Oliver Jones. The cast for that production includes Steve Witten, Alex Lannin, Oliver Jones, Amanda Spera, and Eric Dent. The play follows Fred, who tries to escape a family legacy by reinventing himself as Dr. Gronchensteen, and mixes parody, physical comedy, and absurdist storytelling in a style that leans on broad comedy and playful nonsense.

For local residents the double bill expands entertainment choices during the holiday period. Family friendly showtimes are scheduled at 6 p.m. on December 18, 19, and 20, with a 2 p.m. matinee on December 21. Adult comedy showtimes begin at 8 p.m. on December 18, 19, and 20, with a 4 p.m. performance on December 21. Tickets remain available for the remaining performances.

Beyond seasonal enjoyment, the productions highlight the role of community theatre in workforce development and local spending.
