Pahrump Valley baseball edges Clark 6-5 for sixth straight win
Pahrump Valley jumped on Clark early and held on for a 6-5 road win, its sixth straight victory. The Trojans carried that momentum into the 3A Southern League playoffs.

Pahrump Valley did its damage before Clark could settle in, then survived a late push to leave Las Vegas with a 6-5 road victory over the Chargers on Wednesday, April 29.
The Trojans set the tone in the first inning. Tony Whitney opened with a fly out, but CJ Nelson drew a walk, Dominic Wilson was hit by a pitch and Kayne Horibe also walked to load the bases. Vinny Whitney followed with the biggest swing of the inning, lining a single to left that brought home two runs and put Pahrump Valley ahead 2-0 before Clark had time to reset.

That early pressure mattered because it forced Clark to play catch-up for the rest of the night. Pahrump Valley later had to absorb a late charge, but the Trojans finished strong enough to protect the lead and secure their sixth consecutive win. They had arrived at Clark after a 10-0 win over Canyon Springs the previous day, a stretch that showed the offense was producing quickly and the lineup was not waiting for a big inning to arrive on its own.
The result also carried postseason weight. Pahrump Valley entered the 3A Southern League playoffs as the No. 3 seed, with a matchup against second-seeded The Meadows at 3:30 p.m. on May 7 at Boulder City High School. Tony Whitney’s .487 batting average and .662 slugging percentage in the preview underscored how much damage the Trojans could do at the top of the order, while Sammy Mendoza’s 3.31 ERA gave the pitching staff a stabilizing arm for the games that tighten late.
Clark came in with a 21-7 record and had just seen a six-game winning streak end in a 2-1 loss to Virgin Valley. The Chargers had also beaten Pahrump Valley 5-1 in April 2025, so the one-run road win doubled as both revenge and proof that the Trojans could answer a proven opponent under pressure.
For a team trying to carry momentum into the most meaningful part of the season, the formula was clear in Las Vegas: strike early, keep making plays, and trust that close games can be finished.
