Pahrump Valley freshman Jaycie Hayes reaches 200 strikeouts, tops Nevada pitchers
Freshman Jaycie Hayes became Nevada’s first 200-strikeout pitcher this season, pushing Pahrump Valley’s ace into the state record books from Logandale to Pahrump.

Jaycie Hayes did more than reach a milestone in Logandale. The Pahrump Valley High School freshman became the first pitcher in Nevada to hit 200 strikeouts this season on April 21, finishing with 201 after a full-count strikeout in the bottom of the sixth inning against Moapa Valley.
The Trojans left Logandale with a 19-5 win, and Hayes was part of it in more ways than one. She pitched in relief and contributed at the plate as Pahrump Valley kept rolling through a season that has already put the program and its young ace in the statewide spotlight. By the time the latest reporting was published, Hayes had 211 strikeouts.

Hayes’ rise has been relentless. On March 25, she led Nevada with 104 strikeouts in 61 innings pitched, and Pahrump Valley was 14-4 and ranked seventh in the state. By April 16, MaxPreps had her at 184 strikeouts, an 11-1 record and a 1.56 ERA, showing how fast she climbed in the final stretch of the regular season. For a freshman to reach 200 before many teams even close out their schedules is rare and underscores how far ahead of the pack she has been this spring.
The numbers are backed by dominant outings. Hayes has thrown three no-hitters this season, including an April 10 no-hitter against The Meadows School that came close to perfection, with only one walk allowed. Earlier in the year, she also turned in a complete-game preseason exhibition against Bishop Gorman on Feb. 24, another sign that Pahrump Valley was leaning on a pitcher with unusual poise for a first-year varsity player.

Her father, Brian Hayes, coaches the Trojans, and he has pointed to her fastball as a major weapon. For Pahrump Valley, that combination of family connection, power pitching and steady production has given the program a face recognizable well beyond Nye County. For Nevada softball, Jaycie Hayes has already forced a new standard, and she is doing it in her first high school season.
