Pahrump Valley’s baseball seniors got the kind of sendoff every home program hopes for, a final regular-season game at Rod Poteete Field that ended with a 10-0 rout of Canyon Springs and a recognition ceremony for the class that helped define the Trojans’ spring.

The April 28 non-league win carried more than scoreboard value. It was the last time the seniors would round the bases at home, with teammates, parents and coaches gathered around them before the postseason push. For a Pahrump Valley group that had built momentum late in the season, the shutout became a fitting reflection of how that senior class had shaped the program’s finish.

Kayne Horibe set the tone on the mound with two clean innings, striking out five and allowing no earned runs or hits. Vinny Whitney matched that efficiency in his two innings, striking out four while also giving up no earned runs or hits. The Trojans never let Canyon Springs get on the board, and the pitching made the rest of the afternoon feel in control from the start.

The offense backed that effort with steady production throughout the lineup. Sophomore CJ Nelson went 2-for-2 with two RBI, while Jack Walker finished 1-for-2 at the plate. Tony Whitney, Dominic Chiancone and Dominik Wilson also delivered in a game where Pahrump Valley kept pressure on the Canyon Springs defense and turned the contest into a mercy-rule win.

The victory extended Pahrump Valley’s winning streak to five, according to MaxPreps, and it also marked the Trojans’ eighth straight win over Canyon Springs. The result moved Pahrump Valley to 14-13 and left the Pioneers at 11-11-1. By May 1, the Trojans had pushed their regular-season streak to six straight with a 6-5 win over Clark, a late surge that gave the seniors’ home farewell even more weight.

Senior Day baseball at Rod Poteete Field has long been part of Pahrump Valley’s program tradition, and this year’s version delivered both ceremony and consequence. The class leaving the field helped leave the Trojans with momentum, a shutout, and a home finale that will stand as one of the clearest snapshots of the season.
