Pahrump Valley softball wins fifth state title with 12-1 rout

A sheriff’s escort rolled out of Pahrump with parents and supporters lining the streets, turning a softball trip into a countywide sendoff before Pahrump Valley finished the job in Spanish Springs with a 12-1 rout of Lowry.

The Lady Trojans won the 2026 Nevada Class 3A state championship on Saturday, May 16, earning their first title since 2019 and their fifth overall in program history. Pahrump Valley entered the tournament as the South 2-seed and answered every challenge, opening with a 13-4 win over North 1-seed Fernley, then beating Virgin Valley 2-0 in the winners’ final before Lowry forced the if-necessary game by taking the first championship contest 9-5.

Pahrump Valley responded with its sharpest game of the weekend. The 12-1 victory over Lowry gave the Lady Trojans a 3-1 tournament record and a 32-15 scoring edge across the four state games, a run that showed the title was built on more than one hot night. The team had already signaled its form with an undefeated 10-0 league season, then carried that confidence into the postseason without losing its edge.

The trip north had its own local rhythm. The team stopped in Tonopah for practice and a meal, a small but revealing detail about how Brian Hayes kept the group focused while it traveled through Nye County. Hayes coached the team with Rich Lauver helping run the offense, while Hayes handled defense, practice structure and in-game adjustments. That split gave Pahrump Valley a clear organizational edge through a postseason stretch that demanded precision.

The momentum had been building for days. Before the state tournament, the Lady Trojans shut out Virgin Valley 9-0 in regional play on Friday, May 8, then later fell in the regional title chase before regrouping for state. By the time the final out landed against Lowry, players were jumping, crying and hugging with the trophy in hand, a scene that matched the size of the crowd that had seen them off from Pahrump.

For Pahrump Valley High School, the championship reset expectations. Five state titles, an undefeated league season and a dominant state tournament run now give younger players in the program a clear standard to chase, and they gave Nye County a signature sports moment that felt bigger than one team’s celebration.
