Pahrump Valley Wrestling Shows Depth, Finishes Tenth at Mustang Duals

Pahrump Valley High School's wrestling program began the 2025–26 campaign with a solid showing at the Shadow Ridge Mustang Duals on December 12 and 13, finishing 10th out of about 30 teams. The weekend results highlighted competitive depth across weight classes for the boys squad and provided the girls squad meaningful mat time against regional opponents.

On Friday Pahrump registered several pins and major decisions that built momentum for the squad. Dual victories over programs such as Kofa and Oak Hills demonstrated the team could close matches with bonus points, and an early win over Bishop Gorman underscored the Rams ability to compete with traditionally strong opponents. Individual bonus point wins and pins throughout the lineup were cited by coaches as evidence of depth rather than reliance on a handful of standout wrestlers.

Saturday brought a mixed slate of results. Pahrump suffered a setback in a loss to Fernley, but rebounded with a dominant win over Alta and secured a second victory over Bishop Gorman later in the day. The tournament concluded for the Rams with a narrow 39 to 36 loss to Desert Oasis, a score that illustrated how small margins decided placement and highlighted opportunities for tactical adjustments in team scoring situations.

Several Pahrump athletes delivered standout efforts across multiple weights, contributing to the team score and gaining experience in varsity competition. The girls squad used the event to test lineups and build confidence against regional competition, an important step as girls wrestling continues to expand at the high school level.

Head Coach Antonio Sandoval praised the team effort and pointed to growth opportunities as the season progresses. For local families and supporters, the Mustang Duals results offer an early indicator of the program's trajectory, with depth suggesting potential success in league matches and postseason qualification if development continues.
