Former Syracuse tackle Da’Metrius Weatherspoon signs with Bills as rookie free agent
Da’Metrius Weatherspoon landed with the Bills after the draft, giving Syracuse another lineman a pro shot just down the Thruway from the Carrier Dome.

Da’Metrius Weatherspoon’s next snap will come in Buffalo, where the former Syracuse tackle signed with the Bills as an undrafted free agent and joined one of the NFL’s toughest roster battles.
The 6-foot-7, 330-pound lineman gives Buffalo a developmental offensive tackle as the Bills build toward rookie minicamp, which the NFL says may begin May 11. For a player who arrived in Syracuse in January 2024 after transferring from Howard University, the move keeps his pro path close to a fan base that watched him grow into an ACC-level starter.
Weatherspoon’s road to Orchard Park ran through two programs and a long apprenticeship in the trenches. At Howard, he was a 2023 HBCU All-American and started all 12 games at right tackle for an offense that averaged 367.3 yards per game and reached the Cricket Celebration Bowl. After coming to Syracuse, he played in 25 college games across Howard and Syracuse and started 10 games at left tackle for the Orange in 2024.
His most visible work came in a Syracuse offense that set school and ACC passing marks and led the nation in passing offense. Syracuse said Weatherspoon helped protect quarterback Kyle McCord while also helping LeQuint Allen Jr. top 1,000 rushing yards. In the Orange’s win over No. 23 Georgia Tech on Sept. 7, 2024, Weatherspoon and McCord earned ACC weekly honors after he posted an 81-percent pass-blocking grade from Pro Football Focus, delivered one knockdown block in 76 snaps and did not allow a sack.
That profile matters for Buffalo, where undrafted linemen often have to win jobs through spring work, preseason reps and special teams value before rosters are cut down. The Bills were looking for bodies and upside after the draft, and Weatherspoon’s size, experience and versatility gave him a chance to compete in a room that rarely offers easy paths.
His signing also underscored Syracuse’s recent post-draft momentum. Weatherspoon became the fifth Orange player to land with an NFL team after the 2026 draft, a sign that the program’s offensive line development continues to carry weight beyond Central New York. For Weatherspoon, the next phase begins with a chance to turn a college resume built in Syracuse into a place on an NFL roster, with Highmark Stadium now part of the picture.
