Onondaga Central superintendent Rob Price plans retirement after school year

Rob Price plans to retire from the Onondaga Central School District after the upcoming school year, ending 15 years with the Nedrow-based district as the board prepares for a handoff already in motion.

In a LinkedIn post, Price wrote, "After many rewarding years of service, the time has come for me to embark on a new chapter." His departure gives Onondaga Central a full school year to prepare staff, students and families for the leadership change rather than facing a sudden vacancy.

The Onondaga Central School District Board of Education selected Robert S. Montgomery as the next superintendent. Montgomery has served since July 2024 as assistant superintendent for curriculum, instruction, data and assessment at Marcellus Central School District, and the district said the search took five months and included input from stakeholders.

That transition lands as the district is juggling several concrete priorities. Onondaga Central's budget materials for 2026-27 point to school safety and security, camera and security replacements, maintaining educational programming and enrollment as the main issues in front of the next superintendent. District materials also describe a balanced budget proposal and say fiscal planning has been shaped by a complex New York State budget landscape.

The district also moved forward with a 2026 capital project, adding another major item for the incoming superintendent to oversee. For families in Onondaga, Nedrow and surrounding parts of Onondaga County, the next year will determine how Montgomery manages the district's classroom, security and facilities agenda while Price finishes out his last school year.
