Amazon truck, motorcycle crash in Monroe sends emergency crews to scene

An Amazon delivery truck and a motorcycle crashed at 73 W. Mombasha Rd in Monroe, bringing Monroe Fire Department, Monroe EMS, New York State Police and Tuxedo Police to a residential stretch that sits in the middle of everyday traffic in the Town of Monroe.

The crash forced emergency crews to work a scene on a road that, for many residents, connects homes, local traffic and first responders moving through Orange County. The address, 73 W. Mombasha Rd, is in Monroe, a town incorporated in 1799 that includes the Village of Monroe and the Village of Harriman.

Monroe’s fire response system has been built around consolidation. The Monroe Joint Fire District was formed in 2011, when the Mombasha Fire Company, Harriman Engine Company and Lakeside Fire and Rescue Company merged. Together, those departments now respond to calls across the district, a structure that underscores how quickly local agencies can be called into service when a crash happens on a corridor like West Mombasha Road.

The Monroe collision comes as motorcycle crashes have remained a serious concern in Orange County. A fatal motorcycle crash in Chester was reported June 2, 2026, and another fatal crash in Campbell Hall was reported May 4, 2026. Those cases have added to concern over how quickly a motorcycle collision can turn deadly, especially on roads where passenger vehicles, delivery trucks and two-wheeled traffic are all sharing space.

Statewide, the number of motorcycle crash fatalities dropped from 157 in 2024 to 134 in 2025, according to the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles. Even with that decline, the Monroe crash shows how local risk remains immediate for riders, drivers and the crews who respond when a collision happens in the middle of a neighborhood street.

W. Mombasha Rd runs through a part of Monroe where emergency access, school traffic, neighborhood driving and commercial deliveries can overlap.
