Motorist Killed in Crash with Oil Truck on Route 302 in Crawford
Driver of a 2005 Toyota Camry was killed when the car collided with an oil truck on Route 302 near Burlingham Road in Crawford; officers arrived about 9:40 a.m.
A driver was killed after a 2005 Toyota Camry collided with an oil truck on State Route 302 near Burlingham Road in the Town of Crawford, police said. Officers from the Town of Crawford and New York State Police arrived at about 9:40 a.m.; the Toyota driver was found trapped in the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The crash occurred Friday, February 20, 2026, and emergency medical crews from Pine Bush Ambulance evaluated and treated two occupants of the oil truck at the scene. Authorities have not released the names, ages, or genders of the Toyota driver or the truck occupants, and the conditions of the oil truck’s driver and passenger were not immediately released.
The Town of Crawford Police Department is leading the active investigation with assistance from the New York State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit. Fire and emergency units that assisted on scene included the Pine Bush Fire Department, Bullville Fire Department, Empress EMS, and Orange County agencies such as the Orange County Medical Examiner’s Office, Orange County Emergency Management Office, and Orange County Sheriff’s Office.
Route 302 in the area of Burlingham Road was closed shortly after 11 a.m. as crews worked at the crash site and cleared the scene. Authorities later reopened the roadway; officials have not provided a precise time for reopening. Traffic impacts were limited to the immediate Burlingham Road area of Route 302, where first responders staged equipment and emergency vehicles.
No cause, contributing factors, citations, or charges have been announced. Investigators have not identified the owner or operator of the oil truck in initial reports, and sources do not indicate whether the Toyota carried any additional occupants. The Orange County Medical Examiner’s Office was listed among on-scene agencies and is expected to handle fatality procedures consistent with county protocols.
