Multiple hospitalized after serious Monroe crash closes Orange and Rockland Road

Two medivac helicopters carried crash victims from Orange and Rockland Road in Monroe after a three-vehicle collision just before 1 a.m. that sent multiple people to the hospital. Emergency medical staff at the scene said some of the injured were found unconscious or in altered mental status, a sign this was a high-severity crash, not a routine overnight wreck.

The collision happened at Route 208 and Orange and Rockland Road in Monroe, in Orange County, and prompted a prolonged emergency response. State Police shut down the intersection for hours while investigators worked the scene, slowing traffic through a corridor that serves as a busy connector in southern Orange County.

At least three vehicles were involved. One of the injured patients was flown to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, where the most serious cases were taken for trauma care. Westchester Medical Center says it is the Hudson Valley’s only Level I Adult and Pediatric Trauma Center, which helps explain why air transport was used for the most critical injuries.

The crash fell within New York State Police Troop F territory, where serious collisions are handled through the troop’s regional response and later logged in public blotter reporting. The early timing, the number of vehicles involved and the need for two helicopter transports all point to a scene that required rapid coordination between EMS, law enforcement and air-medical crews.

News 12 also reported that one of the vehicles appeared to be a taxi, though authorities had not confirmed that detail. Even without a final crash determination, the incident disrupted a key Monroe intersection and sent a clear reminder of how quickly a stretch of road used by both local drivers and through traffic can turn into a county-level emergency.
