New Windsor Man Pleads Guilty in Fatal Newburgh Stabbing, Faces Prison
Cameron Williams, 26, of New Windsor was sentenced to 18 years in prison after pleading guilty to manslaughter in the stabbing death of a man on West Parmenter Street in Newburgh.

Cameron Williams, 26, of New Windsor is heading to state prison for 18 years after admitting in Orange County Court that he retrieved kitchen knives from a nearby residence on the night of October 13, 2024, and repeatedly stabbed a man to death on West Parmenter Street in Newburgh.
Williams pleaded guilty on March 27, 2025 to Manslaughter in the First Degree, a class B violent felony under New York Penal Law §125.20. Orange County Court formally sentenced him on July 24, 2025 to 18 years in state prison followed by five years of post-release supervision, a term near the upper end of the statute's 5-to-25-year determinate range.
The plea resolved what had been a murder charge. Williams was indicted on November 6, 2024 on Murder in the Second Degree and related counts. At arraignment, a judge set bail at $1 million cash, $3 million fully secured bond, or $10 million partially secured bond, and Williams was remanded to Orange County Jail. The reduction to first-degree manslaughter reflects Williams's admitted intent: to cause serious physical injury rather than death. His actions caused the victim's death nonetheless.
According to court documents and statements made on the record, an altercation preceded the stabbing, which occurred at approximately 10:45 PM. Williams left the scene, retrieved several kitchen knives from a nearby residence, returned to where the victim was lying on West Parmenter Street, and stabbed him multiple times with multiple knives.
The City of Newburgh Police Department responded to the scene and conducted the investigation that identified Williams as a suspect and led to his arrest. Senior Assistant District Attorney Christopher Kelly and Assistant District Attorney Kevin Sharp prosecuted the case.
District Attorney David M. Hoovler said at the time of the plea: "The act of senseless violence committed by this defendant calls for stiff and meaningful punishment. While the defendant's plea and promised sentence cannot bring the victim back, I hope that the resolution offers the friends and family of the victim a degree of closure."
Newburgh recorded three homicides in 2024, down from four the prior year and part of a five-year declining trend, though the city's violent crime rate of 108 per 10,000 residents remains the highest in the Mid-Hudson Valley region. Williams's sentencing was originally scheduled for June 18, 2025 before taking place on July 24, closing a case that began nine months earlier on a late-night street in Newburgh.
