Orange County DA Joins Warwick Police in Fullerton Insurance Fraud Probe

Warwick detectives and the Orange County District Attorney's Office executed a search warrant at Fullerton Insurance, 583 Route 94 North in Warwick, on Jan. 8 as part of a joint fraud investigation that has since drawn more than 20 complaints from people who believe they were similarly harmed, authorities announced March 19.

The probe began after a single client filed a complaint with investigators. Since then, the case has grown considerably, with more than 20 additional individuals contacting police to report that they may have been affected by similar issues at the agency. No arrests have been made and no suspects have been publicly identified.

Detectives used the January warrant to collect documentation, electronic devices and other potential evidence related to suspected fraudulent activity. The investigation is being conducted jointly with the office of Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler, and authorities have not disclosed the specific business practices under scrutiny or described the nature of the alleged fraud.

State insurance department records list Basil A. Fullerton as a licensed property/casualty agent and broker and a licensed life/accident and health agent. The agency's website was down at the time of reporting, and calls to the listed phone number during business hours went unanswered.

Fullerton Insurance sits in the southern portion of Orange County, in a stretch of Warwick along Route 94 North that serves a largely rural client base about 60 miles northwest of New York City, near the New Jersey border. Whether the complainants are local residents, business owners or both has not been disclosed.
