Orange County Freedom Fest postponed to July 25 because of weather

Orange County Freedom Fest 250 was moved to Saturday, July 25, after forecasted weather threatened the July 18 celebration at Thomas Bull Memorial Park in Montgomery. Orange County Government said the postponement was made for the safety of guests, participants and vendors. The free America 250 event was planned as a full day of live music, history, family activities and fireworks.

The decision came after a July 16 weather outlook warned the mid-Hudson Valley was heading into a stormy weekend. Forecasters were calling for an 80 percent chance of rain on July 18 in Orange County, and the National Weather Service was among the weather sources cited in local coverage. That combination made the county’s outdoor festival schedule far less certain, especially for an event built around performances and fireworks.

Freedom Fest 250 had been promoted as part of Orange County’s America 250 programming, with Mid-Hudson News noting on June 21 that the county was bringing the annual celebration back to Thomas Bull Memorial Park. The event was set to draw families from across Orange County with free entertainment and history-themed activities, all centered on the Montgomery park that has become a familiar stage for large county gatherings.

The postponement also fits a summer in which weather has repeatedly interrupted public events across the Hudson Valley. On July 1, the Middletown Times Herald-Record reported that extreme heat had already forced the cancellation of several America 250 celebrations in the mid-Hudson region. Severe storms around July 4 added another round of disruption, leaving organizers with fewer chances to hold outdoor events without weather concerns. For Orange County, the practical change is clear: Freedom Fest 250 is now set for July 25, and the county opted to wait out the storm threat rather than risk another cancellation.
