County Executive Steve Neuhaus presented the December Citizen of the Month award on December 17, 2025 to Joshua Klotz of Sparrow Bush for sustained volunteer service across schools, churches, and community organizations. The recognition highlights local efforts to promote inclusion, civic participation, and volunteerism in Orange County.

Orange County Executive Steve Neuhaus formally presented the County Executive Citizen of the Month Award to Sparrow Bush resident Joshua Klotz on December 17, 2025. The ceremony took place before family and friends, recognizing Klotz for extensive volunteer work with St. Mary’s Church in Port Jervis, the Middletown Lions Club, SUNY Orange, Special Olympics, East Main Elementary School, Port Jervis High School, and other community efforts across the region.
Klotz, a 2019 graduate of Port Jervis High School and a member of the 2025 graduating class of the Bridges Program at SUNY Orange, has been described by county officials as a consistent source of service and inspiration. County Executive Neuhaus said, “I am proud to honor him as December’s Citizen of the Month,” underscoring the county’s intent to celebrate residents who contribute positively to community life.
The Citizen of the Month Program now serves as a visible channel for the county to acknowledge volunteer work that strengthens schools, faith based organizations, and recreational programs. For local residents, the award underscores how individual efforts translate into tangible support for classroom activities, athletic and Special Olympics programs, community service projects, and the institutions that knit neighborhoods together.

Beyond public recognition, the selection of Klotz draws attention to inclusion and the role civic honors can play in encouraging broader participation among under served populations. The award ceremony functioned as both a celebration and a reminder that civic engagement is diverse in form and origin, and that county recognition can amplify volunteer recruitment and community awareness.
