Port Jervis Woman Dies in Single-Car Crash on Route 17 in Mamakating
Teresa Petitti, 39, of Port Jervis died Monday after her 2024 Honda veered off Route 17 in Mamakating, struck a guide wire, and slammed into the center median.

Teresa Petitti, 39, of Port Jervis was pronounced dead Monday after her 2024 Honda left the westbound lanes of State Route 17 in Mamakating, struck a guide wire on the northern shoulder, crossed two lanes of traffic and slammed into the center median guide rail. New York State Police said the crash occurred at approximately 10:40 a.m. in the Sullivan County town.
Troopers from the State Police Wurtsboro barracks were called to the scene of the single-vehicle collision. Before they arrived, passing motorists pulled Petitti from the wrecked Honda. Troopers then performed life-saving measures at the scene until emergency medical services arrived.
Petitti was transported to Garnet Health Medical Center, where she was later pronounced dead.
A preliminary investigation determined the 2024 Honda was traveling west on Route 17 when, for unknown reasons, the vehicle drifted onto the northern shoulder and struck a guide wire. The car then re-entered the roadway, traveled across two lanes of traffic and struck the center median guide rail. State Police have not identified a cause for why the vehicle left the road.
