Seven Injured in Four-Vehicle Crash Closing Route 6 Near Roundabout
Seven people were hurt Friday when four vehicles collided on Route 6 near the roundabout connecting Rockland and Orange counties, closing the road.
A four-vehicle collision on Route 6 near the roundabout on the stretch of roadway heading from Rockland County into Orange County left seven people injured Friday and drew one of the largest multi-agency emergency responses seen on that corridor in recent months.
Emergency crews treated all seven injured patients at the scene, according to reporting by Yisroel R. of DailyMonroe. No information on the severity of injuries or the number of patients transported to area hospitals had been confirmed as of publication.
The scale of the response reflected the seriousness of the crash. Woodbury Fire Department, Woodbury Police, and Woodbury EMS all mobilized, joined by Monroe EMS, Kiryas Joel Hatzalah, New Square Hatzoloh, West Point Fire Department, Town of Highlands EMS, and New York State Police. The cross-jurisdictional nature of the response, pulling agencies from communities stretching from Monroe to the Highlands, underscores how heavily that stretch of Route 6 near the roundabout is traveled by residents moving between the two counties.
Route 6 remained closed in the area near the roundabout while emergency crews continued working at the scene. Drivers are advised to use alternate routes until the roadway reopens.
The cause of the crash had not been officially reported, and New York State Police had not issued a formal statement or incident report number as of publication. The identities and conditions of those injured had also not been released. Official confirmation of the seven-injury figure from state police or one of the responding fire and EMS agencies remains pending.
