SUNY Orange Unveils Spring 2026 Encore Schedule for Adults 55 and Older
SUNY Orange released its Spring 2026 Encore schedule, offering short-run, non-credit classes for adults 55 and older in Middletown and nearby off-campus sites.

SUNY Orange has unveiled its Spring 2026 Encore schedule, expanding lifelong learning options for adults 55 and older across Middletown and the surrounding tri-state area. Encore offers short-run, non-credit classes in hands-on and lecture formats, with select off-campus experiences beginning in late March and continuing through early May.
"Encore is a program designed for adult learners aged 55 and older residing in the tri-state area," the college states, and the spring roster spans regional history, global cultures, arts and crafts, health and wellness, practical life skills, science, literature, finance, and creative pursuits. Course formats range from single-session workshops to multi-session classes, such as the three-session "Journey Along the Basha Kill" at the Mamakating Environmental Education Center, where each session is led by a different instructor.
The schedule lists specific titles residents will recognize, including "10 Warning Signs of Alzheimer’s," "History of Middletown," "Forgotten Black Army Unit of WWI," "Migrant History in the Black Dirt Region," and practical offerings like "Introduction to Modern American Mahjong" and "Investments: What Investments Are Best Right Now?" Art and wellness options include "Decoupaging Terracotta Pots," "Painting with Produce" (listed in some sources as "Painting with Produce II"), "Floral Arrangements for Beginners," "Gentle Yoga," "Aquasize 101," and "Chair Exercise." The Book Club will meet on March 26 to discuss Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer and on April 2 to discuss James by Percival Everett.
Public-safety and caregiving classes address pressing local concerns. Orange County Assistant District Attorney Darlene DeJesus is scheduled to present an "Elder Scam" session that will cover technical support scams, check fraud, AI-powered scams, funeral scams, government imposter scams, and more. Additional sessions named in local listings include "The Empowered Caregiver" and "Conservative and Operative Management of Arthritis," reflecting a focus on aging-related needs.
Instructors come from a mix of SUNY Orange faculty, retired educators, healthcare professionals, historians, artists, community experts, and business professionals. Class sizes will be set according to available facilities and course format, and some classes may require equipment or supply fees. "Please note that changes may occur since the original catalog was issued," the college warns.
To register, Encore members must have their $45 annual dues paid in full. "To register, students must be Encore members with their $45 annual dues paid in full. For more information, call (845) 341-4896 or email encore@sunyorange.edu." Residents should expect limited enrollment on popular offerings and consider early registration if a specific workshop or off-campus outing is important.
SUNY Orange positions Encore as part of a broader community mission: "From exploring regional history and global cultures to hands-on art, health, wellness, and practical life skills, lifelong learning at SUNY Orange continues to offer engaging and enriching experiences." For Orange County adults planning spring activities, the Encore lineup provides both social and practical courses that connect local history, outdoor experiences, and consumer protections to daily life. Keep an eye on the Encore catalog for final times and locations, and register early to secure a spot.
