Woman Jumps From Newburgh-Beacon Bridge, Closing Westbound Lane Saturday
A woman jumped from the westbound side of the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge just after noon Saturday, was found moving in the water, and was pulled onto a boat where CPR was performed.

A woman jumped from the westbound side of the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge just after noon Saturday, triggering an emergency water rescue that closed the right lane of the span connecting Orange and Dutchess counties.
Mid-Hudson News and the Dutchess County Scanner Group both confirmed the jump occurred "just after 12pm," according to A Little Beacon Blog, which first reported the details. Witnesses said the woman jumped from the right side of the bridge when traveling toward Newburgh. She was found moving in the water roughly 100 feet below the bridge deck and recovered onto a boat, where rescuers performed CPR. Her current condition remains unclear, and no official agency statement had been released as of Saturday confirming the outcome or identifying which units conducted the water rescue.
No information about the woman's identity has been released. It is also unclear which responding agencies, whether the Orange County Sheriff's Office, New York State Police, local fire departments, or a marine unit, pulled her from the Hudson River.
The incident is not isolated. A Little Beacon Blog noted that jumps from Hudson River bridges in this corridor occur with troubling frequency. A man jumped from the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge on September 17, 2024; a young man was found in the water after jumping from the same bridge on August 5, 2024. Past jumpers have come from communities including Montgomery and Clinton in New York.

A separate, unrelated crash on I-84 westbound near mile marker 41.3 closed lanes near the bridge on March 9, and a second crash closed all westbound lanes near mile marker 40.30 by approximately 4:45 p.m. on a different date. Neither Daily Voice report linked those closures to the Saturday jump incident.
