AmericInn in Fergus Falls reopens after major renovation

AmericInn by Wyndham Fergus Falls Conference Center reopened with a ribbon cutting on May 21 at 526 Western Avenue, bringing one of Fergus Falls’ better-known lodging properties back online after a substantial renovation.

The reopening matters because this is not just a place to sleep for the night. With 60 rooms, a conference-center designation, and a location just off I-94 and Highway 210, the hotel sits in a part of Fergus Falls that serves business travel, family visits, regional meetings and the steady stream of visitors moving through Otter Tail County. For downtown restaurants, gas stations and other nearby businesses, a refreshed hotel can help keep more visitor spending in town instead of sending travelers elsewhere for rooms.

Visit Fergus Falls lists the property’s amenities as private whirlpool suites, family suites, an indoor pool, kiddie pool and spa, a fitness center, free breakfast, free Wi-Fi and an evening guest reception Monday through Thursday. The meeting room can hold up to 80 people. That combination gives Fergus Falls a venue that can handle not only overnight guests, but also small conferences, team gatherings, wedding parties and memorial weekends, when hotel availability often shapes where people stay and where they eat.

The building’s age and history give the renovation additional weight. Travel Weekly lists the hotel as built in 1995 and last renovated in 2021, with 1,300 square feet of total event space and two meeting rooms. A property that size does more than fill beds. It can affect whether a sales meeting, tournament group or family reunion chooses Fergus Falls in the first place, and whether planners see the city as ready for larger traffic in the summer travel season.

The Chamber’s reopening event underscored that business side with a scavenger hunt through the renovated spaces, the Ducky Game, brunch and a grand prize drawing. That kind of rollout suggests the hotel is being positioned not just as a place to stay, but as an active part of the local hospitality network.

Wyndham says the property is minutes from downtown Fergus Falls and within reach of more than 1,000 lakes within a one-hour radius, a reminder of how closely lodging in the county seat is tied to tourism and regional commerce. A renovated AmericInn gives Fergus Falls a known hotel name, added meeting capacity and another reason for visitors to stay in town.
