Fatal three-vehicle crash reported on I-94 near Fergus Falls

Three vehicles were involved in a fatal crash on Interstate 94 in Grant County, just south of Fergus Falls. The wreck adds to a run of serious incidents on the west-central Minnesota corridor that Otter Tail County drivers use daily.

I-94 near Fergus Falls has already seen other severe crashes. On June 4, 2025, a semi left the interstate and landed on a county road below. The driver escaped serious injury, but the crash showed how quickly a highway incident can spill off the freeway and into nearby county traffic routes.

Another crash on westbound I-94 near Fergus Falls injured two people when a pickup truck hit stopped traffic and became partially submerged underneath a semi-trailer. That crash underscored the danger of congestion and sudden slowdowns on the interstate, especially where fast-moving traffic and heavy trucks share the same lanes.

Deadly crashes have not been limited to the interstate. A separate fatal three-vehicle crash on Highway 29 in Parkers Prairie Township involved a 2005 Suzuki GSX-R600 motorcycle, a 2013 Chrysler and a 2013 Buick Regal at 11:10 a.m. The collision added another grim example of how quickly a multi-vehicle wreck can turn fatal on Otter Tail County roads.

Together, the crashes on I-94 and Highway 29 point to recurring safety concerns across the county’s busiest travel corridors. Drivers moving through Fergus Falls and nearby townships have faced a string of severe wrecks involving semis, stopped traffic and vehicles leaving the roadway.
