Fergus Falls Man Arrested, Stolen Vehicle Gear Valued At Nearly Two Thousand
A Fergus Falls man was arrested after police recovered nearly two thousand dollars in stolen vehicle equipment from a pickup following a weekend break in. The arrest highlights local property crime concerns and underscores the importance of securing vehicles and reporting suspicious activity.

Fergus Falls police arrested 40 year old Tony Maruna after officers found a pickup matching a witness description and recovered stolen items linked to a vehicle break in. The sequence began when officers responded Saturday morning to an apartment complex where a resident reported a break in and said a black pickup had been parked near their vehicle around the time of the incident.
The resident reported four pieces of equipment missing from the vehicle, with a combined value of one thousand eight hundred fifty dollars. Stolen items included the vehicle s aftermarket radio, a diesel tuning programmer, a rangefinder, and a Garmin GPS. On Sunday officers located a pickup matching the description, occupied by Maruna. After obtaining a search warrant officers searched the pickup and found the stolen equipment inside.
Maruna made his first court appearance Tuesday morning. He has been charged with felony theft, receiving stolen property, and entering a motor vehicle without permission. Those charges mark a significant escalation beyond a misdemeanor and open the case to potential felony prosecution under Minnesota law.
For Otter Tail County residents the case is a reminder of the practical and financial impacts of property crime. Stolen electronics and vehicle accessories are often targeted because they are portable and resalable, leaving victims with repair costs and lost time dealing with police reports and insurance claims. Local law enforcement said they followed standard procedures in securing evidence and obtaining judicial authorization to search the vehicle.
Neighbors and vehicle owners may want to remain vigilant and report suspicious vehicles or activity to local police to aid investigations. The recovery of items in this case demonstrates how witness observations and timely reporting can help law enforcement locate stolen property and move cases into the court system.
The charges are pending and the case will proceed through the Otter Tail County court process. Further court dates and potential outcomes will be determined as the prosecution and defense prepare their positions.
