Fergus Falls Psychiatric Hospital Worker Punched 14 Times, Assault Charges Filed
A psychiatric hospital resident punched a staff member 14 times in the head and face during a group session, leaving the worker with a black eye and a lump on their head.

A resident at a Fergus Falls psychiatric hospital faces assault charges after allegedly punching a staff member fourteen times in the head and face during a supervised group session, according to Otter Tail County prosecutors.
The attack unfolded while the staff member was leading a group for residents at the facility. The resident stood up and began striking the staff member repeatedly in the head and face while other staff members moved in to restrain the attacker, prosecutors said.
Court documents detail the extent of the injuries: the staff member was taken to the emergency room and was found to have swelling on the face, pressure in the ear, a lump on the head, and a black eye.
When police spoke with the resident afterward, the resident said they believed the staff member had said "negative and threatening things" about the resident's family. Investigators did not confirm that claim in the available records.
Otter Tail County prosecutors filed assault charges on March 17, 2026. The resident made their first court appearance Monday morning. The specific charges, including whether they are classified as a felony or misdemeanor, have not been publicly confirmed. The name of the facility and the identities of both the resident and the staff member have not been released.
