Fire destroys trailer, attached cabin northwest of Wadena

A residential trailer attached to a log cabin was destroyed in rural Wadena on Wednesday afternoon, leaving the main structure a total loss and damaging a nearby wood building on Curve Road northwest of town. No injuries were reported.

Otter Tail County officials were called to the 60000 block of Curve Road at about 3:20 p.m. after the structure fire was reported. Calls also came in just before 3:30 p.m. Fire crews from the Sebeka, Bluffton, Wadena and New York Mills fire departments responded and worked to contain the blaze before it could spread farther across the property.

The trailer and attached log cabin were described as a complete loss. A nearby wood building also sustained damage, adding to the property loss in a rural area where a single fire can quickly erase a home, outbuilding and key personal belongings. The Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office and the Minnesota State Fire Marshal’s Office are investigating the cause.

The response reflected how much mutual aid matters in Otter Tail County’s rural fire coverage. Sebeka, Bluffton, Wadena and New York Mills all had to send crews to the scene, a reminder that fast-moving structure fires outside city limits often depend on departments from several communities working together.
