Otter Tail County announced the completion of its new Perham highway garage on November 17, and will host a public open house from 10 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, December 3, at 829 NE Third Street. The project brings expanded storage for equipment, a wash bay for plow trucks and a county owned salt shed to the Perham area, amenities officials say will strengthen routine and winter road maintenance.
“This new garage means our Perham area crew will have the space for equipment they need to complete efficient road maintenance in the area,” said Cristi Field, Otter Tail County highway maintenance coordinator. “Having a facility with storage for equipment and a wash bay means we can better serve residents, especially during the winter months. Our crew takes pride in maintaining safe roads, and this garage gives them the tools to do that.”
County leaders describe the project as a cooperative venture between Otter Tail County, the city of Perham and local contractors. “This project is an example of what we can do when local government works together,” said County Commissioner Bucholz. The collaboration allowed the county to consolidate resources and deliver a facility intended to serve residents for many years.

Highway Department staff Cristi Field and Colby Palmersheim will lead tours during the open house, explaining specific features and how the garage will be used in seasonal operations. For residents, the most immediate benefits will be more efficient snow and ice control, faster response to road incidents and longer service life for county equipment through protected storage and on site washing.
Beyond practical advantages, the project highlights local government capacity to plan and execute infrastructure that directly affects public safety and commerce. In a county where winter road conditions shape daily life and the local economy, the new garage represents a tangible investment in reliability and public service. Community members are invited to view the facility, meet the crews and see how the new amenities will support county operations.
