Perham Council Backs Eagle Scout's Veterans Memorial Plan for Boedigheimer Park
Eagle Scout candidate Matthew Sazama won Perham City Council backing Tuesday to build a veterans memorial at Boedigheimer Park.

Matthew Sazama's Eagle Scout project is taking shape in Perham, with the city council voting Tuesday to support his plan to construct a veterans memorial at Boedigheimer Park, the green space situated at the corner of Third Avenue SE and Coney Street E.
The council's backing was more than ceremonial. Members directed the city to serve as legal sponsor for the project, a designation that opens the door to formal grant applications, including pursuit of a park grant that could help fund the memorial's construction. Without a municipal sponsor, Eagle Scout projects of this scale typically cannot access public funding streams or secure the institutional partnerships needed to move from concept to ground.
Sazama's proposal places the memorial within one of Perham's established neighborhood parks, giving it a permanent, publicly accessible home. Boedigheimer Park's location on the southeast side of the city positions the memorial for visibility within a residential corridor.
The project follows the long tradition of Eagle Scouts undertaking community service initiatives that outlast the scouting milestone itself. A completed veterans memorial at Boedigheimer Park would stand as a permanent fixture honoring those who served, funded in part through civic partnership and the initiative of a young Perham resident working toward the highest rank in scouting.
With the council's formal support now in place, the next steps will likely involve grant applications and design finalization as Sazama works to see the project through to completion.
