The Becker County Sheriff’s Office identified the man shot and killed overnight in Frazee as 19 year old Bryson Andrew May. Deputies were dispatched to a disturbance call at 701 W. Ash Ave. at 2:38 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 20, and were notified while responding that shots had been fired and one person may have been wounded.

When officers arrived they found the 19 year old victim. Life saving measures were performed at the scene and the man was transported to Essentia Health St. Mary’s hospital in Detroit Lakes, where he later died from his injuries. His identification is being held until the family is notified.

Law enforcement reports that four suspects left the scene in a black SUV. That vehicle was located a short time later by an Otter Tail County deputy north of Perham, and all four people believed to be connected to the shooting were detained. The release from authorities characterized the incident as isolated, and law enforcement said there was no further perceived threat to the public.

Multiple agencies assisted at the scene, including the Frazee Police Department, Frazee Rescue, the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office, and Essentia St. Mary’s emergency medical services. The rapid coordination of county and state partners helped lead to swift location and detention of the vehicle and its occupants.

For Otter Tail County residents the immediate implications are both practical and communal. Practically, authorities have signaled the situation is contained, which should limit disruptions to daily life and local commerce. Communally, the death of a local 19 year old is likely to deepen concerns about youth safety and public order in a small city setting, and could prompt local leaders to review patrol patterns, interagency communication protocols, and community support services.

Officials may also face requests from residents for regular updates and for renewed investment in prevention measures such as conflict mediation, youth outreach, and mental health resources. In the near term the focus remains on the investigation and on supporting the family of the deceased as the community processes this loss.
