The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet approved $31,800 in County Road Aid emergency funds to the Owsley County Fiscal Court for slide repairs on the Upper-Lower Wolf Creek Connector, designated County Road 1133, state officials announced Wednesday, March 18.

The slide targeted for repair sits 0.24 miles southwest of Lower Wolf Creek Road. The Owsley County Fiscal Court is responsible for administering the repair work.

Transportation Secretary Jim Gray framed the award as a matter of basic connectivity. "The Transportation Cabinet is pleased to approve this request for funding to provide assistance to Owsley County to repair and maintain safe connections in the community," Gray said.

The funding comes through the Cabinet's County Road Aid emergency program, a mechanism designed to help local governments respond to road damage that falls outside routine maintenance budgets. Slides are a persistent hazard on rural county roads across Eastern Kentucky, where steep terrain and seasonal rainfall regularly compromise road beds and embankments.

The same round of awards included $43,530 in municipal road aid emergency funds to the City of Hazard for slide repairs on Highland Avenue, with the affected section located just north of Hall Street.
