Owsley County Elementary Hosts Kindergarten Registration April 9 for Fall 2026
SAT scores from the March 11 exam are already in College Board accounts; kindergarten registration opens at OCES this Friday, April 9, from 4 to 6 p.m.

SAT scores for students who sat for the March 11 exam became available in College Board accounts on April 2, and Owsley County School District staff Megan Bowling and Tonya Spicer moved the same week to make sure families knew where to find them: log into a College Board account or open the BigFuture app, not a third-party site.
For a district where 84.5% of students qualify as economically disadvantaged, those scores carry real stakes. Merit scholarships and state-based aid often tie directly to SAT performance, and students who want to improve their results before another administration can work through the score analysis tools built into their College Board accounts. A school counselor is the fastest in-person path to a conversation about next steps, retesting timelines, and what current numbers mean for college planning.
The district's next hard deadline is Friday. Kindergarten registration for the 2026-2027 school year is set for April 9 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Owsley County Elementary School in Booneville. Bowling's announcement to families stated it plainly: "We're excited to welcome our newest learners! Join us for Kindergarten Registration for the 2026 school year on April 9th from 4:00-6:00 PM at OCES."
Families should come prepared with four items: proof of residency, a birth certificate, up-to-date immunization records, and documentation of any required eye or health screenings. Under Kentucky law, children must turn 5 by October 1 of the enrollment year, meaning children born on or before October 1, 2021, are eligible for fall 2026 entry.
The 4 to 6 p.m. window is a deliberate choice for a county where the median household income was $31,064 in 2023 and roughly 24% of families live in poverty. It gives working parents a chance to attend without losing wages. Owsley County's entire district serves 742 students across two schools, so registration night is not an anonymous bureaucratic event; it is a direct handoff between incoming families and the staff who will be in the classroom with their children starting in August.
The Owsley County Public Library is also running a Spring Break Egg Scavenger Hunt this week, releasing daily clues through its social media pages. The district promoted the event as a way for families to stay connected to learning outside school hours during the break.
Questions about required kindergarten documents, accessing College Board accounts, or the library's scavenger hunt schedule can be directed to the Owsley County School District central office at 606-593-6363, located at 14 Old Hwy 11 in Booneville. The registration window on April 9 runs exactly two hours; families who gather their paperwork before walking in will spend that time talking to staff, not searching for documents.
