Perry County sheriff’s office adds new deputy Poole

Poole has joined the Perry County Sheriff's Office as its newest deputy, a hire that adds another uniformed officer to the county’s daily patrol coverage. In a jurisdiction that stretches from Tell City and Cannelton to Troy and outlying roadways, each deputy helps absorb calls for service, traffic enforcement, warrants and emergency backup.

The staffing move also matters at the sheriff’s office headquarters, which is located at 2211 Herrman Street in Tell City, IN 47586. Residents can reach the office at 812-547-2441, and the department’s public site lists services that touch many parts of county life, including inmate lists, posting bond, scheduling inmate visits, inmate communication, commissary and sheriff sales.

Dave Faulkenberg is listed as sheriff on the office’s website. The department’s employment page says county job opportunities, including positions with the sheriff’s office and Detention Center, are listed through Perry County Government, underscoring how closely staffing in corrections and patrol are tied together in a small county system.

The addition of Poole comes against a recent backdrop of law-enforcement strain and turnover. In February 2023, the sheriff’s office was already looking to hire a new deputy, showing that recruiting remained an active priority. The office’s own history also shows a recent leadership transition: Alan Malone served as sheriff from 2015 to 2025, preceded by Lee Chestnut from 2010 to 2015 and Bob Glenn from 2002 to 2010.

Malone’s biography on the sheriff’s office website says he worked with the Tell City Police Department to start a National Night Out event and helped create a Citizens Police Academy, efforts that relied on regular patrol presence and public visibility. Those kinds of outreach programs, along with routine law enforcement work, depend on having enough deputies available to cover the road calls, the courthouse demands and the unexpected emergencies that can pull officers in multiple directions.

That need for coverage was made stark in July 2023, when an exchange of gunfire at Perry County Memorial Hospital in Tell City killed Tell City Police Sgt. Heather Glenn and 34-year-old Sean Hubert, according to Indiana State Police. Against that history, the arrival of another deputy is more than a personnel note: it is part of keeping Perry County’s sheriff’s office staffed enough to answer calls and stay present in the county’s towns and rural stretches.
