Fatal Crash on Laurel Bowie Road Closes Lanes in Prince George's County
A 40-year-old man died after a single-vehicle crash in the 11400 block of Laurel Bowie Road; the road was closed between Powder Mill and Snowden Pond while investigators worked.

Prince George’s County police responded around 12:35 a.m. to a deadly single-vehicle collision in the 11400 block of Laurel Bowie Road; the driver was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said. Officers from the Prince George’s County Police Department arrived after reports of a crash and began an on-scene investigation that continued into the morning.
An earlier FOX 5 DC bulletin reported that the driver’s identity had not been released. Later coverage from WJLA and FoxBaltimore named the victim as 40-year-old Louis Sanchez Smith of Laurel. Those outlets said the identification came as investigators continued to process the scene.
According to the preliminary investigation cited by WJLA and FoxBaltimore, Smith was traveling southbound on Laurel Bowie Road when, for reasons still under investigation, he lost control of the vehicle and struck multiple trees. PGPD detectives are examining evidence from the scene to determine whether speed, roadway conditions, mechanical failure, impairment, or a medical issue contributed to the crash.
A separate closure notice stated that Laurel Bowie Road was closed between Powder Mill Road and Snowden Pond Road for the crash investigation, with the restriction starting at 5:05 a.m. Prince George’s County police directed traffic around the closure and advised motorists to use alternate routes while recovery and investigative actions were underway.
Investigators asked anyone who may have seen the crash or who has information to contact Prince George’s County Crime Solvers or submit an anonymous tip through the P3 Tips app, as reported by FOX 5 DC and WJLA. PGPD is the investigating agency on the case and is coordinating evidence collection and scene clearance.
Public reports and the available coverage do not specify the vehicle type, whether there were any other occupants, or an incident case number from PGPD. Media accounts also do not state whether the county medical examiner has issued a confirmation beyond the on-scene pronouncement. Those elements remain to be released by investigators as they complete interviews and forensic work.
Prince George’s County Police Department officials said the investigation is ongoing and have not provided a timeline for reopening the full stretch of Laurel Bowie Road between Powder Mill Road and Snowden Pond Road. Authorities indicated they will release additional information as it becomes available and continue to seek tips from anyone with relevant observations.
