Fatal Shooting at Sheriff Road Business Raises Safety and Oversight Questions

The Prince George's County Police Department Homicide Unit is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred inside a business in the 5300 block of Sheriff Road on December 8, 2025 at approximately 11:50 pm. Officers found 50 year old Donald Wayne Hunt of Waldorf inside the establishment suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Preliminary investigation indicates that Hunt was involved in a fight with several other patrons. A private security guard working at the business was alerted to the altercation and while interacting with the group discharged a weapon, striking and killing Hunt. Investigators recovered a second firearm at the scene that did not belong to the security guard. Detectives are working to determine the full sequence of events leading up to the shooting, collecting additional evidence and conducting more interviews. The Homicide Unit is consulting with the Prince George's County State's Attorney's Office and no charges have been filed at this time.
