A man was found shot dead inside a crashed car on Branch Avenue Thursday; police closed the road between Beech Road and Auth Way as homicide detectives investigate.

A man was found fatally shot inside a crashed vehicle on Branch Avenue Thursday afternoon, triggering a homicide investigation and shutting down a stretch of one of Prince George's County's busiest corridors for hours.
Prince George's County Police officers responded around 4:40 p.m. April 10 to the 4700 block of Branch Avenue after reports of a single-vehicle crash. When they arrived, they found an adult male inside the car suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The circumstances of the shooting remain under investigation. Police have not released the victim's identity, and no suspect information has been made public as of Friday.
The county's Homicide Unit took over the investigation. The crime scene prompted significant road closures along Branch Avenue between Beech Road and Auth Way, a section that runs through a heavily traveled commercial and residential stretch of the county. Motorists were forced to seek alternate routes during the evening hours.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact Prince George's County Crime Solvers at 1-866-411-TIPS.
