Xaviour Smith, 28, of Upper Marlboro and identified as a Prince George’s County Public Schools employee and founder of a Temple Hills youth dance program, made an initial appearance in federal court Thursday after a federal grand jury returned a five-count indictment charging him with producing child sexual abuse material. The indictment was filed in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Maryland.

Federal charging documents quote the U.S. Attorney as saying Smith “persuaded, induced, enticed and coerced three minors to engage in sexually explicit conduct” for the purpose of producing visual depictions, alleging the conduct occurred between March and August 2025. Prosecutors have described the targets only as “minors”; authorities have not disclosed the victims’ ages or genders.

Prosecutors charged Smith with five counts of producing child sexual abuse material. If convicted, Smith faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years and up to 30 years in federal prison on each of the five counts, according to court filings referenced in reporting on the case.

The investigation was led by the FBI’s Baltimore Field Office with assistance from the Prince George’s County Police Department and is tied to the Department of Justice’s Project Safe Childhood initiative, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office and reporting from local outlets. Federal authorities handled the indictment process and presented the charging documents to the court at the initial appearance Thursday.

Prince George’s County Public Schools placed Smith on leave after learning of the federal indictment. In a written statement provided to 7News and recited by local outlets, PGCPS said, “We were informed today of the federal indictment of one of our employees, Xaviour Smith. Mr. Smith is currently on leave. As this is a personnel matter, we are unable to share additional details at this time. The safety and well-being of our students remain our highest priority. Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS) expects all employees and contracted personnel to uphold the highest standards of professionalism and to comply with all applicable laws. At this time, law enforcement has indicated that there is no reason to believe students at his assigned workplace were impacted. We will continue to cooperate fully with authorities as the investigation moves forward.”

Smith is also identified in reporting as the founder of a private dance program in Temple Hills most commonly reported as 1101 Dance Academy, Inc., which the reports say serves youths ages eight to 18. Photos on the studio’s Facebook page have been described in reporting as showing Smith surrounded by children, and the studio account lists Benjamin Stoddert Middle School in Temple Hills as the address for classes; one outlet’s topic tags listed an alternate spelling, 1011 Dance Academy, a discrepancy that remains to be confirmed against business records.

Smith’s next federal court dates, the federal docket number and whether he has retained counsel were not available in initial reports. Were you or your child enrolled at Benjamin Stoddert Middle School or 1101/1011 Dance Academy between March and August 2025, or do you have information about the program’s classes at Temple Hills sites?
