PGPD Chief, Sheriff Host Surrattsville Town Hall on Public Safety
Chief George Nader and Sheriff John D.B. Carr joined county council members at Surrattsville High School Tuesday night to field public safety concerns from Clinton-area residents.

Two of Prince George's County's top law enforcement leaders sat before Clinton-area residents Tuesday evening in a forum that brought together the county's police chief, sheriff, and two council members under one roof to address public safety concerns.
PGPD Chief George Nader and Sheriff John D.B. Carr joined Council Members Wala Blegay and Wanika Fisher for the two-hour session at Surrattsville High School, running from 6 to 8 p.m. The school, located on Garden Drive in Clinton, served as the meeting ground for what officials described as part of an ongoing community engagement effort.
Nader, who became the 20th chief in PGPD history when he was appointed in June 2025, brings more than 32 years of law enforcement experience to the role, including prior service as assistant chief of the Metro Transit Police. Sheriff Carr, a Prince George's County native who took office in December 2022, has built much of his tenure around community outreach initiatives, leading a department of nearly 400 sworn and civilian employees serving more than 900,000 county residents.

Council Member Fisher represents District 2, which covers parts of the Clinton and Suitland corridors directly served by the Surrattsville school zone. Blegay, who was elevated to an at-large seat in January 2026, has positioned constituent engagement as a central priority of her expanded role, launching a countywide town hall initiative since taking on the at-large position.
The gathering reflects a broader push by county leadership to move public safety conversations out of government buildings and into neighborhoods. Surrattsville High School, which is transitioning into a Community School for the 2025-2026 year through a partnership with local organizations, has become a natural anchor for that kind of civic work in the Clinton area.
