UMD Police Investigate Voyeur Incident at McKeldin Library Restroom
A student spotted someone peering through a hole in a McKeldin Library seventh-floor restroom stall last Wednesday, spurring a UMPD criminal investigation.

A student using a seventh-floor restroom stall at McKeldin Library spotted an unknown person peering through a hole in the stall wall last Wednesday afternoon, triggering a criminal investigation by the University of Maryland Police Department.
The incident occurred between 4:50 p.m. and 5:15 p.m. on March 25. UMPD's Criminal Investigations Unit is handling case #2026-79116, and detectives began reviewing camera footage from inside the library immediately after the report was filed. The investigation remains active as of this week.
McKeldin Library is one of the busiest academic buildings on the College Park campus, drawing students throughout the day for coursework, research, and support services. The timing of the incident, during a late-afternoon rush of activity, placed it squarely within peak library hours. UMPD issued a public advisory shortly after the report came in, releasing the case number and urging anyone with relevant information to call 301-405-3555 or submit an anonymous tip through the department's online reporting portal.
Voyeurism in a public campus restroom is a criminal offense that can carry serious penalties under Maryland law. UMPD kept the public advisory focused on verifiable facts, the investigative case number, and contact instructions, in an effort to balance community notification with protecting the victim's privacy and preserving the integrity of the ongoing investigation.
The Criminal Investigations Unit is asking anyone who was in or near the McKeldin Library seventh-floor restrooms between 4:50 p.m. and 5:15 p.m. on March 25 to contact investigators. Students and staff who need support can reach campus counseling services and victim-advocate offices in addition to UMPD's main line at 301-405-3555.
