UMPD Issues Advisory After Indecent Exposure Reported in McKeldin Library 6th-Floor Restroom
A student reported a man exposed himself in a McKeldin Library 6th-floor restroom stall at about 5:59 p.m.; UMPD opened case 2026-37263 and is seeking tips.

A man (student) told University of Maryland Police Department officers that, while inside a restroom stall on the 6th floor of McKeldin Library, another man entered the stall next to his and exposed himself before leaving, UMPD said. The incident occurred at approximately 5:59 p.m. on February 12, 2026, and UMPD was notified at approximately 6:10 p.m.; the department assigned the report case number 2026-37263.
The University of Maryland Police Department, Criminal Investigations Unit is investigating this incident, and a video review of the cameras inside the library is underway, UMPD advisories state. The advisory adds that when available for release, additional information, including an updated description of the suspect, may be posted to UMPD News.
Anyone with information about the incident or the possible identity of the suspect is encouraged to contact UMPD at 301-405-3555, the advisory says. For emergencies, UMPD lists 301-405-3333, #3333 from a mobile phone (AT&T and Verizon Wireless), and 911 as options. The advisory encourages use of the campus walking escort service by calling 301-405-3555; NITE Ride remains available at 301-314-3687. Campus support resources listed include the ADA/504 Coordinator at 301-405-2841, Bias Incident Support Services at 301-405-0980 and BiasSupport@umd.edu, the Help Center at 301-314-4357, and the Counseling Center at 301-314-7651. The advisory copy provided to the campus also included safety language: “Stay alert and attuned to people and circumstances around you.”; “Trust your instincts. They are a natural gift that tells you when something is wrong.”; “See Something, Say Something!”; “Be Smart, Be Safe!”
An Instagram post accompanying the alert noted a UMD advisory email was sent to the campus community that evening and directed readers to UMPD News for more details. The advisory materials included a reference to anonymous reporting by email, but the copies provided to this newsroom omitted the email address; the department has not supplied that address in the materials reviewed.
Campus incident listings from March provide broader context but are separate from the Feb. 12 McKeldin Library report. Those listings include an assault March 10 at 3:42 p.m. at Garrett Hall involving two female roommates with no reported injuries, a March 11 burglary at Centreville Hall at 3:50 a.m. described as two women waking to men in their unlocked room, a trespassing incident March 7 at Delta Sigma Phi that resulted in an arrest, an indecent-exposure report March 10 at 2:55 a.m. on Knox Road listed as closed by exception, a suspicious person/auto March 14 at Terrapin Row closed by exception, and active vandalism cases reported March 9 in Lot A and March 12 at the Department of Residential Facilities office.
UMPD advises that the Criminal Investigations Unit is handling the McKeldin Library matter and that “a video review of the cameras inside the library is underway.” If you were in McKeldin Library on the evening of Feb. 12 around 5:45–6:15 p.m. or have information about the man who entered the adjacent stall, will you contact UMPD at 301-405-3555?
