Clarkco State Park will throw open its gates Thursday morning for the first time since undergoing a comprehensive overhaul, with the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks hosting a grand reopening event at 8 a.m. March 19 that begins with a social gathering at Pavilion Two, followed by a special program and guided tours of the upgraded facilities.

The renovations transformed both overnight options at the Quitman County park. Forty-three RV campsites have been rebuilt with full hookups, meaning water, electricity and sewer connections, along with a picnic table and grill at each site. Reservations for the campsites are already open through the MDWFP online reservation system.

The six renovated cabins received the more extensive treatment. Inside, each unit now features stainless-steel kitchen appliances, specifically a refrigerator, stove, microwave and coffee station, plus renovated dining areas with solid-surface countertops. Living rooms got new furniture and a flat-screen satellite television; bedrooms received updated furnishings; and bathrooms were fitted with walk-in fiberglass showers. Step outside and each cabin offers a front porch equipped with a picnic table, fire pit and grill, along with a screened-in back porch with outdoor seating. The lodge and bathhouse also received updates, though MDWFP has not detailed the scope of those improvements.

Officials say the work is intended to make Clarkco a more comfortable destination for visitors seeking outdoor recreation. Beyond the overnight accommodations, the park offers fishing, boating and hiking, and its day-use area includes a playground, nature trail, disc golf course and tennis courts. Park entry is $2 per person; children five and younger get in free.

Cabin reservations, like campsite bookings, are available now through the MDWFP reservation system. Anyone planning to attend the March 19 reopening event can join the tour of the renovated cabins and campground after the opening program wraps at Pavilion Two.
