I-30 widening in Royse City brings new lane shifts Monday night

Westbound traffic on I-30 will shift to new pavement between FM 2642 and FM 548 at 9 p.m. Monday, July 13, and the westbound frontage road from FM 2642 to FM 35 will open by 5 p.m. the same day. By 5 p.m. Tuesday, July 14, the eastbound entrance ramp at FM 551 and the eastbound exit ramp to Blackland Road will open, permanently replacing the older eastbound exit to Erby Campbell Boulevard.

The change gives Royse City drivers a new set of merge points to watch as the $348 million I-30 corridor expansion moves deeper into lane-shift work. The project is part of a broader push to widen I-30 and add continuous frontage roads from SH 205 to the Hunt County line, including across Lake Ray Hubbard.

TxDOT’s environmental documents for the stretch from SH 205 to west of FM 2642 call for the highway to grow from four main lanes to six main lanes, with frontage roads rebuilt as two lanes in each direction. The Hunt County west segment covers 12.34 miles, and the improvements are intended to ease safety and congestion between FM 2642 and SH 34.

The new traffic pattern will funnel vehicles back onto I-30 at FM 2642, FM 548, FM 35, FM 551 and Blackland Road. Drivers should check the state traffic site for daily lane closures, with major scheduled closures announced ahead of time.

The July shift also follows an earlier round of ramp closures in Royse City. In September 2025, Rockwall County closed the eastbound on-ramp and off-ramp at Erby Campbell Boulevard through late 2026. The full project is expected to wrap up in early 2028 as part of Texas Clear Lanes.
