Rockwall baseball heads to area playoffs against Midway at Cleburne
Rockwall’s postseason path continues at Cleburne, where the Yellowjackets meet Midway in a best-of-three area series with regional rounds still ahead.

Rockwall’s baseball season now turns to Cleburne, where the Yellowjackets will try to keep their playoff run alive against Waco Midway in the UIL 6A Division I area round. The series opens Thursday, May 7, at 7 p.m. at Cleburne Railroaders Field, with Game 2 set for Friday, May 8, at 7 p.m. If the teams split the first two games, Game 3 is scheduled for Saturday, May 9, at noon.
Rockwall reached this stage by surviving a three-game bi-district battle with Wylie. The Yellowjackets advanced 2-1 and enter the area round with a 19-14-3 overall record and an 11-2 mark in district play, finishing first in district, according to MaxPreps. That blend of district dominance and postseason resilience has carried Rockwall into a round where every inning matters and one mistake can end a season.

Midway arrives with momentum of its own after sweeping Duncanville 2-0 in bi-district play. The matchup pairs two teams that handled their opening playoff tests in different ways, setting up a best-of-three series where pitching depth, defense and timely hitting will likely decide who moves on. Rockwall’s ability to answer after tight games against Wylie will be a central factor, while Midway’s sweep suggests a group that has already found a clean formula for advancing.
The stakes rise quickly from here. The UIL bracket places the area round on May 9, followed by the regional semifinal round on May 16, the regional final on May 23 and the state championship round on June 6. For Rockwall, Thursday’s opener in Cleburne is the first step in a shorter postseason road and a chance to extend a run built on district consistency and a hard-fought first-round escape.
Fans from Rockwall County who want to follow the series can do so at Cleburne Railroaders Field, where the next chapter of the Yellowjackets’ season will be written on Thursday and Friday nights, with a deciding game on Saturday if needed.
