Aztec to Shut Off Water Briefly for Hydrant Replacement at Mesa Verde
Aztec cut water service at the Mesa Verde and Fairgrounds intersection Monday to replace a fire hydrant, with the city's Nixle alert system notifying residents before the work began.

The City of Aztec shut off water service at the Mesa Verde and Fairgrounds intersection to replace a fire hydrant Monday, issuing an official Nixle alert to notify residents in the affected area before the work began.
Aztec operates and maintains its own municipal water and wastewater systems, with the Public Works Department handling infrastructure repairs and replacements across town. The hydrant replacement at the Mesa Verde and Fairgrounds intersection required cutting service to the surrounding area while crews removed the existing unit and installed a new one.
Service was expected to be restored once the work was finished and the line repressurized. Residents with questions about the outage can reach Aztec's utility Business Office at (505) 334-7670, located at 201 W. Chaco St. The office is open Monday through Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., with a two-hour midday closure on the last Wednesday of each month for a staff meeting.

The Nixle system allows Aztec to push real-time alerts directly to residents by text or email whenever water service is interrupted, whether for scheduled maintenance or emergency repairs. Customers not yet enrolled can sign up at aztecnm.gov to receive advance notice before future outages.
