A Clearnetworx internet outage that began around 3:30 p.m. Monday knocked customers in Durango, Farmington, Cortez and Pagosa Springs offline for roughly three and a half hours, disrupting point-of-sale systems, remote work connections and health-care communications before service was restored shortly before 7 p.m.

Company spokeswoman Sara McCombs said engineers were troubleshooting the Fast Track circuit serving Durango and Farmington, running diagnostics from the central office while aerial crews fanned out to inspect overhead lines. As of Monday evening, investigators had not pinpointed a definitive cause, with both equipment failure and construction damage to physical utility lines remaining under consideration.

The outage's footprint was uneven: some homes and businesses in the affected cities reported intermittent connectivity while neighboring addresses kept full service, a pattern suggesting the failure was confined to specific network segments or failover routing paths rather than the provider's entire infrastructure.

Clearnetworx notified customers via text and email as the situation developed, keeping its communications focused on restoration updates rather than technical specifics. The company had not confirmed a root cause by the time service returned.

Small businesses depending on Clearnetworx for card readers and other point-of-sale hardware faced direct revenue loss during the 3.5-hour stretch covering the dinner rush. Medical device connectivity and telehealth sessions also faced disruption, underscoring how a single circuit failure can cascade across critical services in communities with limited provider alternatives.

If investigators confirm construction damage severed the Fast Track circuit, it would likely renew pressure on utility contractors and network providers to coordinate more tightly before any excavation begins, a recurring friction point across the Four Corners region. Clearnetworx has not announced credits or compensation for affected customers.
