Rolandrick Randall, 21, of Fruitland was arrested April 1 and charged with two counts of third-degree felony homicide by vehicle in the July 29, 2025, head-on collision on New Mexico Highway 371 that killed Serene Dildanges Mikel, 23, and her husband Casey Daniel, 23.

Shortly before 4 p.m. on the day of the crash, Randall was driving a white Hyundai Sonata when he crossed into oncoming traffic at high speed and struck the couple's brown Ford 400 head-on. Mikel and Daniel, who had recently married and were traveling from Washington to Texas to begin their life together, were pronounced dead at the scene.

When witnesses pulled Randall from his vehicle, a glass pipe fell from his pocket. New Mexico State Police noted in their report that the pipe was used to smoke marijuana, and Magistrate Judge Stanley King signed a warrant for a blood draw. Randall sustained severe injuries in the collision, including a broken leg, broken wrists, broken ribs, broken ankles, and ruptured intestines. He was treated at San Juan Regional Medical Center and remained there until medically cleared, at which point investigators made the arrest.

The loss has devastated the couple's family. Serene's sister, Brea Mikel, spoke to the grief that has lingered for months: "That life was unfairly taken from both of them. Our family is still reeling from this devastating loss."

Randall was booked into the San Juan County Detention Center following his arrest. A preliminary examination is set for 8:30 a.m. April 15 at Farmington Magistrate Court, where results from the court-ordered blood draw are expected to factor prominently as both sides prepare their cases.
