Piedra Vista High School walked out of Ricketts Park in Farmington without a blemish, finishing the three-day Scorpion Invite undefeated and pushing its season record to 12-0 when the tournament concluded Saturday, March 21.

Ten regional high school teams competed across the weekend at Ricketts Park, but none could solve the Panthers. Piedra Vista's perfect run through the invite stands as the most striking headline from a tournament that also produced some lopsided final-day results.

Durango's Demons closed out their Scorpion Invite on the highest of notes, routing Grants 18-2 in the final game of the tournament for both teams. What began as a tight early contest turned into a blowout, with Durango drawing 11 walks and racking up 17 hits to overwhelm the Pirates' pitching staff. The offensive display was relentless: Durango's combination of plate discipline and hit production left Grants with no answers over the course of the game.

Elsewhere at Ricketts Park on Saturday, Pueblo West's JoJo Mendoza gave his team an early spark when he slid safely into third base in the top of the first inning, stealing the bag ahead of a throw to Farmington's David Olayo.

Bloomfield's Broncos had a day of mixed fortunes. Pitcher Jeremy Yates was sharp through the middle innings, striking out the side in the second and keeping opponents scoreless through the fourth before finishing with six strikeouts. Yates then handed the ball to Higgins for the final two innings. Bloomfield trailed 10-1 entering the sixth, when the Broncos mounted a comeback attempt. Jayceon Atcitty doubled and scored on a sacrifice fly, and Allen followed with a two-out double to left field that cleared the bases and cut the deficit to 10-4. The rally stalled when Lewis fielded a grounder to third to end the frame. Garcia contributed an RBI groundout in the fifth that scored Elias Munoz. Bloomfield finished the weekend 4-5 on the season.

Kirtland Central's Bobcats dropped to 3-10 through their Scorpion Invite appearances.

Both San Juan County programs now turn their attention to district play. Bloomfield heads to Jemez Valley on Thursday for a road doubleheader before opening the District 1-4A schedule the following week. Kirtland Central hosts Grants on Friday in a home doubleheader, also with district play on the horizon the week after.

For Piedra Vista, the only remaining question after a 12-0 start is how deep into the spring that unblemished record can hold.
