San Juan County Strongman Event Raises Over 750 Hoodies for Kids
M&R Service hosted the Corndog Classic on December 13, turning a local lifting competition into a sanctioned United States Strongman event and raising funds to buy more than 750 hoodies for the Boys and Girls Club of San Juan County. The event marked the fifth year of the charity program, bringing new visibility to local sponsors and delivering winter clothing to children in need.

M&R Service held the Corndog Classic on December 13, transforming its annual Lift for Gifts charity into a United States Strongman sanctioned competition and donating all proceeds to the Boys and Girls Club of San Juan County. Organizers and sponsors pooled resources and purchased more than 750 hoodies for club members, addressing documented winter clothing needs cited by the club.
The event evolved from a four lift format in earlier years to a full strongman program this year, incorporating traditional implements and tests of strength rather than the previous bench press, barbell squat and deadlift format. The change was intended to increase participant interest and spectator engagement. As one announcer noted, "Anything north of 300 pounds on the log is no small peak. So what you're going to watch, there's not a lot of people that can do this. Okay, so let's," underscoring the physical challenge and spectacle the new format produced.
Organizers emphasized community involvement. "This year we, we purchased 750 hoodies for the Boys and Girls Club of San Juan County," an event representative said, tying fundraising outcomes directly to local need. Sponsors from around San Juan County and neighboring areas covered event costs and helped maximize donations. The effort also highlighted local small business support, with Boon's Family Thai BBQ and Home2 Suites listed as sponsors.
For San Juan County residents the immediate impact is tangible warmth for children facing cold winter conditions. The shirts and hoodies will be distributed through the Boys and Girls Club, which identified sweatshirts and warm clothing as a priority. Longer term, the switch to a sanctioned strongman event may broaden the event's reach, drawing athletes and spectators and generating recurring charitable proceeds in future years.
